It's all very well for McK's to set up in business to undertake some sort of support role for LiPs but there is a very good reason why professional legal fees are so high and only lawyers should be paid for giving legal advice: (a) salaries need to be sufficiently high to attract the best brains, many of whom will become judges of the future (b) firms must make sufficient revenues to pay for mandatory safeguards to protect clients (c) law firm fees are high to discourage people from vexatious or frivolous claims that would waste their time and anyone else's. Three very good reasons, i would say. Putting it like that highlights some of the pitfalls of de-factor McK friend 'lawyers' giving legal advice: (a) they aren't necessarily that bright or accurate (b) they have no safeguards to offer clients (c) they will do too little to discourage time-wasters and will take money making promises they can't keep on cases that have a hopeless prospect of winning. All very bad reasons for McK de-facto lawyers.
