In the last decade I have been involved in a couple of very minor accidents. In both cases I was in heavy traffic and moving incredibly slowly. Contact was made with the rear of the other vehicle in each case. There was no visible damage to either car in one case and very superficial damage to the other car (none to mine) in the other case.
I doubt whether the contact speed in either case exceeded 5 mph.
In the first case, the driver jumped out of his car to inspect non-existent damage, holding his neck and stating "Oh, my neck."
He had for no obvious reason to stop suddenly in front of me when we were both looking to exit a junction. The incident occurred on a Saturday of a bank holiday weekend. On the following Monday morning i.e. 2 days after the incident, miraculously, I received a letter from a Liverpool firm of solicitors. My insurers remarkably paid up for what was clearly a fraudulent claim - damage to the other car and whiplash.
With the other incident, the driver stated at the time: - "Fortunately, no one is hurt" and clearly no one was.
You guessed it, within a very few days there was a solicitors' letter holding me responsible for whiplash injury.
It was not conceivable that any injury had occurred in either case.
Insurers do not consider it economical to challenge these false claims and pay up.
