The closure of SIF without a replacement is a serious risk to both the public and the profession. The SRA is blind and deaf to the plight of those members of the public who will be unable to obtain compensation once SIF closes. When this happens there will be a public outcry followed, I predict, by a reduction in trust in solicitors and a downturn in instructions to sole practitioners and small firms. I urge every continuing and retired solicitor to lobby their MP to change the SRA's thinking on this. There is a fair and economic alternative to SIF which has been rejected by the SRA for no good reason. I can be found on Facebook if anyone wants more information. I also urge every retired solicitor to support the Law Society’s efforts to create post run off insurance.
