Many thought the writing was on the wall following the decision in Autoclenz v Belcher, but six years later we are sadly little further advanced.

The nonsense of treating individuals who are clearly employees, as contractors without any semblance of employment rights, has become a national scandal. We are not talking an isolated few companies in the "logistics" market either; this is widespread and growing.

Personaly I'm not in favour of abandoning Tribunal Fees, but that's a debate beyong this post. However, reverting to the previous system might just be the catalyst to kick start reforms, which appear to be going nowhere at the moment - after all, most "employers" engaged in this practice are not going to budge until it starts hitting them in the pocket.

I'm generally not a Union fan either, but bravo GMB for taking a stand. Perhaps they might like to have a look at at the Banks - I am aware that at least one major foreign owned UK Bank, appears to be very keen to avoid scrutiny over the way it is staffing and operating its PPI claims division.
