Sean, MF do pose a significant threat to the public. A MF is meant to assist the person who they represent, possibly give them advice on legal matters. With respect to bouncers but how qualified is a former bouncer and how knowledgeable is a bouncer going to be about the intricacies of the law?

Also you highlight about the news stories of someone who was not a barrister and a solicitor overcharging an estate. This is a small % of 'rogue' practitioners in comparison to the number of practising solicitors and barristers. Compare this to the small number of MFs and the cases we have already seen reported and the % of dodgy MFs is significantly higher.

At the very least MFs should be regulated and have insurance and a code of conduct. They should have to pay for it as well like solicitors and barristers. I would prefer an outright ban on MFs as there is plenty of ways someone can get representation. The amount of pro bono work being provided is significant.
