Mr Assange is someone who believes his rights are more important than the rule of law and that reflects his respect for it. It is quite correct that it is irrelevant whether he is a nice guy or not. Even if he was a nice guy he does not have any right to decide which laws apply and which don't.

He is a fugitive from justice whether or not he is innocent. It is endlessly fascinating that the Swedish authorities are responsible for any 'impasse'. or that any criminal investigation team from a liberal democracy should have to agree to demands from a subject of their inquiries.

Why don't we have all those suspected of committing serious crimes make decisions on the terms under which they are interviewed? Why not require the suspect's consent before arrest? and how about having the convicted decide whether or not they are sent to prison?
