"You don't get "More for Less" you get less for less." - Quite.

Anon 12.20 - We don't get less for our council tax, as such, we get less because the income the councils used to get from central government to top up those revenues have been slashed away. Local authorities cannot magic up money from nowhere, they're service providers, not businesses.

Moreover, and perhaps of more pertinence when talking about the political side of this, the said revenue slashings have it seems been proportionally more severe in more deprived local authority areas as compared to leafier haunts in the South East. That is not a universal picture, of course, but speaks volumes as to the underlying problem here.
