I suggest that the CMC is potentially suffering the tensions of an existentialist threat.

With the relentless attempts by the SRA and others, to dumb down the law in general, and conveyancing in particular, even though the government pulls home buying in a direction of ever greater complexity and risk, the idea of an 'estimate generator' is singularly stupid.

Such an idea merely reinforces the narrative, that conveyancing is a simple process, akin to selling baked beans, requiring little expertise, and therefore any conveyancing deal is much like another.

Why would anybody in 2017, want to instruct individuals with such a narrow skills base?

Conveyancing especially leasehold conveyancing, contains numerous traps for the unwary. The law does not exist in neat compartments, and there can often be tax and trust aspects arising from so called “routine” conveyancing

In the light of the change of tone by the Law Society in its recent pronouncements regarding its relationship with the SRA and CMA, perhaps such bodies together with the CMC, are now heading for a final showdown with the Law Society at a regulatory O.K. Corral?
