@Anonymous 18:13 5 November. Lots of people do what you're thinking. I went the other way, which at the time was probably harder due to exams for solicitors' accounts rules (nasty) and conduct (dead easy). Just ask the BSB for the current rules, they may have tightened it up a bit but if you already have higher rights in both crim and civ most of it might be waived anyway.

Oh yes, you'll have to go to "qualifying sessions" (lectures are very good, dinners not so much) in one of the Inns a few times, so don't mess up your application to the Inn of your choice, you're allowed one application per lifetime.

The hardest job would be finding a chambers, but if you don't mind being a door tenant for a while there shouldn't be much of an issue (and there are some virtual ones too). Especially if some clients elect to follow you, and as SP you wouldn't have any restraint of trade issues...

Public access status also might be a real pain point, but if you've already been a SP solicitor then maybe they'll waive the usual wait, training/mentoring etc?
