I am not sure that this website will succeed, or even the next one, but times are changing, and I can see a time in the next 10 years when solicitor comparison sites will be commonly used by first time buyers and estate agents. When I started work, we had a lady who rolled up her sleeves once a week, donned her rubber gloves, and set to work on the Roneo duplicating machine. Another lady spent her time all day, every day typing commercial leases. (In passing I believe that the modern draftsmen are like modern software coders; they have lost the ability to be concise, and believe length means clarity. It doesn't.) The fax machine and computers were distant twinkles in the eye. This afternoon I drafted a 50 page lease, and sent it to my client on holiday in France (I very much doubt he will look at it until he gets back, but I am in a service industry where the client gets what he thinks he needs) with title and replies to CPSE all in the space of an hour, without once having the intervention of a secretary.
Times change and those who think they can ignore progress should reflect on Cnut the Great, who well knew that even Kings cannot hold back the tide.
