"Defence counsel should make a short speech after the prosecution has opened its case to help juries understand what they should focus on before they begin to hear evidence"
Why shouldn't there be a Defence opening speech? If the Defence are meant to identify the issues at an early stage to every other person, why can't we tel the jury? It's no use saying "It's tradition"; every other tradition has been thrown out the window.
