There are pressures caused by commoditisation of law services and law firms trying to retain rates of profit despite fees being lowered across the board. However, I think clients’ demands for a faster turnaround but at the same time for lower fees are putting lawyers under severe pressure. It’s a factor in every day life though and not just in legal services caused by our ability to obtain instant information. Flexible working is also going to mean that these problems continue on into the evenings with clients demanding instant access to their lawyer. I don’t know what the answer is to this - probably increasing commoditisation and fewer lawyers employed as managers of information or data clerks!
