To begin with. If this chap had received a full life sentence I wouldn't have lost any sleep.

He didn't (and the Crown side didn't complain) and so he comes up for parole. I know quite a few former Parole Board judges and I know that they took their part (the decision is only part their's) very seriously. I don't know but I assume that they can be in a minority.

So a decision had to be made. There is probably a case for the hearings to be public - but bear in mind publicity seeking prisoners of the most awful sort will milk this - or for a greater openness in the decision making - my preference.

But the decision had to be made on the best evidence available and in accord with the law and not on my prejudice or to be fair (to me) subjective reaction set out in the second sentence of this post.

Should there be a right to challenge the decision - if so by whom and how? Endless litigation.

So, I think I'm broadly with 13.35 and 15.17.
