In response to John Bower your point would have been just as well made without your silly reference to the 'arrogance of Tories'.

I am a member of the Tory party and if I am arrogant (and I wait for the chorus of those that know me to answer in the affirmative) it is nothing to do with my political views: remember that the Rt Hon Jack Straw was banging the same drum as the present government and even the swivel eyed fringes of the internet would struggle to call him a Tory.

Let us fight these proposals on merit, as there are many meritorious arguments to raise and support with good evidence and leave the cr*p about the 'bloody Tories' to the pages of the Guardian & etc. it really is not helpful.
