Surely the main point is, whether the costs are £99k or £86k or anything in-between, how on earth can the SRA run up costs of this order in what must have been, on any view, an open and shut case! Highly public conviction of election fraud by a solicitor = bringing the profession into serious disrepute: what, seriously, can it cost to product evidence of conviction to the SDT? A couple of thousand would be generous. The SRA should be dedicating the serious money (paid for by the profession) on those cases where there are real complexities.
