Should this sort of event happen again? No, of course not.

Will reputations be damaged by association? Undoubtedly.

But should mere attendance require punishment? Not in my view. It's akin to whipping the horse before the race begins.

Had I attended this event, badged as a charity fundraising dinner, I would be devastated to have my character question because of the actions of a few other attendees (whilst agreeing that their actions should be met with zero tolerance).

Ms Jackson names Mr Minkoff in her piece as an attendee, saying he has been 'named and shamed'. For what inappropriate/illegal actions has he been 'named and shamed'? I appear to have missed the explanation of what part he played in any misconduct, although I agree that he could have much more strongly condemned the actions of others.

By all means encourage (and if necessary, legislate for) changes to the profession which will see the 'old boys club' mentality disappear, but do be careful not to tar all with the same brush. We shouldn't be witch-hunting as a proxy response.
