There are so many rules and regulations giving one right after another to employees and so many compliance issues and dealing with the lender panels that we must pay despite being CQS accredited that being the owner of a law firm has driven me to the point of suicide - but I cannot go off sick for a few months and enjoy a phased return to work. No Statutory Sick pay for me. I have to keep coming in and smiling. I have had to deal with over 200 emails today. I cannot afford to employ a secretary or PA.
I would hate to see a return to the days when employees were exploited but there comes a point where a small business simply cannot afford all these things.
Thank goodness I don't have long to go until I retire.
