Litigants in person should not be given special treatment. The rules are there for all to comply with. The onus is therefore on the rules to be clear and understandable by all so that nobody has scope to argue otherwise.

There is likely to be a huge increase in litigants in person over the next few years with the upcoming PI reforms - the satellite litigation that could follow as a result of poorly-drafted and often outdated rules should cause concerns at all levels.
