Mr M

You have simply reframed "the debate" as you put it into a binary world of remainers and leavers jousting at each other in contented anitpathy.

Whether I voted remain or leave nearly 2 years ago is no business of anyone else's but the voting booth, and (although it is kindly meant) I have no desire to be pigeonholed as a good leaver, remainer, or fully paid up member of the monster raving loony party (though the last has its attractions). I have studiously avoided politics of all kinds and I don't like it; I was always taught that overt political discourse to all and sundry was bad manners.

Moreover, the sad reality is that (like most of the country I suspect) I really cannot get that heated about a sloganised battle between competing national and supranational bureaucracies. There is a lot more to life.

I am happy to give you a professional opinion on the impact of Brexit in my specialist area (fisheries) but. I need hardly add that any professional opinion I would give would have the normal caveats about requiring further information before coming to a firm view in certain areas. It would also take hours and be full of unintelligible fisheries specific legal references.

I fully support your key point though about the name calling. This is an exceptionally complicated situation and I don't think there is any single person in the country who can hand on heart say they have a fully informed view. People need to be honest, the Brexit vote was purely a matter of faith and name calling will not alter that so it is pointless (as well as rather rude).

All the best.
