Litigants in person ARE a problem in many cases, especially FDR's when they refuse even to speak to one another before the hearing let alone negotiate.
I find myself being drawn in to mediate when hearing cases such as this but even then it is often hopeless.
Often neither will give ground even though they both assure me that they want to "get it sorted". Often, there isn't much to argue about but it's a "matter of principle".
The only answer is to list the case for final hearing which is a waste of resources .
