Statistics require care to ensure they're properly understood and don't create a misleading impression (not a comment on the writer, everyone's citing the "90%" increase including the MOJ.)
A more contextual assessment: firstly, single claims by individuals are more representative. As multiple claims, typically union backed group actions, distort the picture.
Prior to Tribunal fees, MOJ statistics show single claim receipts stood at roughly 4500 per month. (Oct to Dec 2012-13,862 single claims). Since August 2017, roughly 2700 per month. Whilst numbers have indeed almost doubled since fees were abolished compared to the same reference period in 2016/17, single claims are still down by about 40% of pre July 2013 numbers. With respect, Paul Quain overstates the position. Whether we eventually get back to pre-July 2013 levels remains to be seen. Very unlikely as ACAS early conciliation will continue to prevent some potential disputes turning into claims.
