Very good piece from John Hyde. There have been some very high handed and tough rulings by the SDT specially in the past 10 years. There are Solicitors who don't even have a parking fine to their name and have been caught up in SRA proceedings and then found themselves struck off. The SDT or SRA should re examine a lot of these cases more specifically of Solicitors who can being forward medical evidence to demonstrate long term ill health. These are well educated members of our community who still remain well respected. I strongly feel any one struck off in an arbitrary way must be given a second chance. Neither the SRA nor the SDT have the right to just make someone jobless in a day and take away the very tool they use to earn their living. It has devastating consequences on people's lives of which the SRA and SDT never hear anything and that is not correct.
