Very good points Charlotte, ones which we have reflected on numerous times. I also think the same applies to certain types of inquests e.g. those which follow major incidents or crimes, such as acts of terrorism. The bereaved will, quite rightly, want to feel that proceedings are being run in a way which recognises their needs, where possible, and is transparent, independent and rigourous. Where scope, funding and the status of certain parties could be or is controversial, it is important that space is created for the legal team and support staff to work free from the type of controversies which can distract and/or undermine faith in the process and the subsequent findings and recommendations.
