Anon 09:30. I'm sorry that from a few weeks' work experience of you and your friends conclude that most solicitors are unethical. After almost 20 years of practice, my conclusion is that the majority are decent ethical people trying to scrape a meagre living.

Surprise, surprise, law firms are businesses that have to make profits to pay wages. As a work experience placement, you may not have been paid money. However, rather than sniping at the profession, perhaps your time might have been better utilised learning from the experience of working in an office environment and how the legal process works. A significant minority of trainee solicitors and work experience placements feel that repetitive work is beneath them. If this is your chosen profession, get used to it, a lot of work is mundane and repetitive, even for a senior 20 year qualified solicitor, particularly when checking the work of work experience students.
