I have also been there albeit not because of the stresses and strains of my caseload. After 6 weeks off with a diagnosis of clinical depression I returned to be the subject of disciplinary proceedings for minor (no loss involved) errors made during the worst part of my illness.

I was expected to be able to argue my corner despite being incredibly mentally fragile. I tried but to this day I bitterly regret not just walking out.

But all that said, I do wonder if we are now seeing a generation of individuals with less mental fortitude. "Snowflakes" in modern parlance. It used to be that as a trainee or junior solicitor that you worked bloody hard, so what has changed?
