Another Bank holiday over, and I see that the judges are awaking from their gentle slumber to realise, that the disadvantaged will suffer, as the court estate continue to shrink.

Does not the contraction in the number of court buildings provide a perfect metaphor for what is happening in the UK in terms of justice in 2018?

Solicitors can fight with the Bar to defend particular parts of our legal system, but what is needed is a sustained campaign at a macro level, so that arguments are not lost by default.

The government is convinced that there is a digital solution for all of life’s problems, so the days when justice must be seen to be done may be numbered, unless solicitors show that they care.
