Had Slaughters included partners' pay in their statistics this would no doubt have pointed up not just the ratio of female associates to female partners but also the ratio of female to male partners, which then of course begs further interesting questions. Their response that partners are not employees is technically true, but raises the suspicion that partners' salaries were excluded because either the amounts were eye watering or a considerable majority of the recipients were male, or both.
