The SRA is doing the bidding of the Government/LSB which is to make ASBs work. The aim is to reduce costs to the consumer. Never mind the quality of the advice. Never mind the risk to the consumer. The stated aim is to force down the costs of legal advice for small and medium-sized businesses and those individuals who have no idea how to pick up a phone or search through websites and speak to someone about their legal problem (if they can in the first place identify the fact it is a legal problem). The SRA is obsessed with this because the LSB goes on and on and on about it.
If it was me I'd send every small and medium sized business a letter with their tax reminder stating that if they have a legal problem then they can search The Law Society website for a local Solicitor or join the Federation of Small Businesses and get legal advice and access to legal documents for free and in that way, hopefully, LSB and SRA would leave us alone.
