"Although I think the Court fees in England are too high, the maximum in France of 100 euros is clearly state subsidy. Is that ... unlawful state aid and will the European Commission be investigating?"

The answer to Mr Appleyard's presumably rhetorical questions are: (1) of course it is, and (2) of course they won't! Despite the fact that (as we are so often reminded) we are still in the EU, it's apparently quite legitimate for France and other Union states to try to destroy our business by state subsidies. How could we be any worse off outside? And I'm still rubbing my eyes at Anon 13:39's analogy. Can he really believe that the NHS is trying to undercut the French health industry? Heavens preserve us from Europhile logic.
