How can using a solicitor to draft an LPA prevent abuse? Most LPAs appoint one or more children and have special conditions. A recent case reported in my local newspaper involved a son and daughter who stole tens of thousands of pounds from their elderly mother using an LPA. Whether this LPA was drafted personally or by a solicitor, it did not stop the abuse. Maybe the only way to prevent abuse is to insist on annual accounts being prepared, but I cannot see the OPG welcoming the extra responsibility of checking these.
