Oh it would be a shame to lose the service for the parent - but - and I know this is very controversial - if a child is removed from a drug addict parent - and "if " and the emphasis is "if" then placed with loving adoptive parents when the child is but weeks old - I'm sorry - the child's welfare comes first and not the parent who has chosen (albeit for whatever reason) to turn to drugs - and I know this isn't a legal argument - but over the years I have acted for too many parents who thought it was their right to keep a child without taking on board what it actually means to be an appropriate parent - although I have seen many parents who aren't on drugs and shouldn't even look after a gold fish.
