The most straightforward way to deal with this nonsense is not to have a website. For my part I do not want to have clients whose sole criteria for instructing me is price; I prefer they go elsewhere. I prefer to act for existing clients and those referred to me by clients who can vouch for the new client's ability to pay my fees.
That being said I do sometimes give fixed quotes for certain types of work. I do sufficient of it to know that some parts will take more time than anticipated and other parts will take less (or not be required at all) but these fee quotes are substantial - never less than £20,000 and more usually over £40,000 (always plus VAT and disbursements, of course). Not the sort of fees the ordinary man in the street is likely to afford.
