This short-sighted, ongoing obsession of the SRA that 'consumer choice' is utopia and must be prioritised above all else is just senseless. Some services in life need barriers to entry (in terms of qualifications, training, insurance and, as a result of those, cost). This is for consumers' own protection because done wrong, these services will cause greater harm - whether that's legal, dentistry, house building, whatever. The continual erosion of those barriers, and race to the bottom on pricing, is dumb and self-defeating. In the longer term, the public will suffer. This isn't rocket science.
