Hi Anon (15:27)...

With regards to CPS/GLS, in part it would depend upon the % of male/female applicants, surely?

Either way, no, I don't suggest that the "recruitment process" is necessarily dysfunctional... You'll note that I suggested the dysfunction would reside within the "society", at large, rather than within a particular institution.

That aside, I do maintain there must be concrete reasons as to why, in the organisations you cite, assuming the statistics are correct, female applicants are either more successful (assuming they represent 50% of all applicants) or else are choosing to apply to those organisations in greater numbers than men...

Do you know if the statistic is comparable in private practice and, if it is not, do you think there might be cultural reasons for that difference that might also interlink with and be impacted upon by wider societal norms?

For example, it remains the case that women will more commonly take time out to raise and support children... Do you suspect that rights in that regard may be superior in the CPS/GLS compared to private practice and may draw applications?

I'm not familiar with evidence to suggest that Universities discriminate "against Asians" ... your suggestion with regards to the England football team errs towards a belief in eugenics and I reject it completely... The make up of the football team would, I would presume, be driven by cultural rather than genetic factors and the respective popularity of certain sports amongst certain demographics (try making the same argument about "athletic endeavours" with regards to cricket, for example).
