The wonderful thing about a free market is that employers have to compete for talented labour.

If firms irrationally discriminate against talented women or minority lawyers or parents, then that creates an opportunity for a firm to prosper by simply treating people on merit. Perhaps the victims of discrimination might in some cases be able to set up their own firm? Not possible for the most junior of course.

If these perceptions of discrimination reflect reality then a rationally run firm will have a genuine and substantial advantage over firms that discriminate. Natural selection will work its magic over time.

Or am I missing something?
