An impression I have formed (having tried to make complaints about colleagues to the SRA - for breach of undertaking no less and been told that the SRA do not deal with that type of thing!!!) is that the SRA do not have a clear understanding of the issues they need to be concerned with and appear more often than not to pursue the wrong members of the profession for simple errors to the benefit of those who are unfortunately amongst our ranks who are, shall we say, falling very short of professional standards (euphemistically speaking!!!) - of which I have always considered "honesty" to be paramount.

Lawyers are best placed to catch real culprits in their own profession and therefore to maintain professionalism.

As someone has already said the public do not regulate the medical profession, so why should solicitors be less entitled to professional regulation.

I just hope that common sense can be restored and unite regulation with the professional body while there are still enough real legal professionals around.
