The Gazette is a publication of the Law Society which is the professional body for solicitors. It has no power over McKenzie Friends. They are unregulated - nobody has power over them therefore wrongdoing is difficult to identify, report and rectify.
Solicitors can and mostly do publicise their credentials. There are many "lawyers" who have none but present themselves as being competent. This is made a whole lot more confusing for punters (sorry I mean consumers - the people who used to be clients) because the SRA has undermined and confused the market by allowing so many vague legal entities which may have a solicitor somewhere in them and now by allowing a second class role for solicitors practicing in entities that are not solicitors firms. Confused? I am.
