Most (not all) of these comments make very distressing reading and if I didn’t have a life to live I could say a lot more than this.

The Government isn’t saying that the ‘conveyancing’ process is broken, per se, but that the home buying and selling process is broken. If you break down all of the complaints posted about the process (in many cases posted by actual conveyancers), nothing screams louder than, it is much more than broken, it is ******. No one agrees on anything! You are all adding fuel to the Government’s fire. Everyone has a different gripe, from, searches to slow mortgage offers, or from contract delays to managing agent issues, or from chains to slow clients, etc, etc, etc. Someone has to grasp the nettle and try to fix it. Sadly, conveyancers, as a group, won’t. Hence, intervention.

Hips, a golden opportunity missed by conveyancers. They should have been the ones compiling them. Not the rubbish pack that the Government mandated, but a proper, sellers/legal pack. A Hip, was needed before a property could be marketed, for goodness sake, before!! Had conveyancers taken their blinkers off, that would have been the time to shift the balance of power from agents to conveyancers. No more requests or demands for referral fees! Conveyancers, the first in the food chain, happy days.

Yes, conveyancers are underpaid, undervalued and overworked, but they need to engage, they need to unite and they need to speak with one voice and with their blinkers off.

I have met Mr Prior a couple of times and do you know what, he is (in my opinion) a decent guy, trying to achieve something for the public. However, he isn’t blind to the very tough job that conveyancers do.

Stop posting from your desks, get off your backsides and go to conferences and seminars and roadshows when these issues are being discussed, sometimes with Mr Prior in attendance, always happy to listen, engage and learn.

Back to my life. Good luck.
