The comments by Anonymous at 13.16 are just plain odd. The very idea of the models referenced above is that you have your own work (there are different models that give you work I accept) - without having that work - which you can only generate by being good - you don't get paid. How is the model "not that appealing"? I was on £120k as a junior partner in a city firm doing stupid hours and having endless marketing meetings. This year I'll earn over £400k (and have done so for the last 4 years) with none of that internal nonsense and with far more freedom to do the things I want to do - what's not to like?
