I once worked in a not dissimilar environment to Ms James - constant pressure, ridicule, the partner concerned would walk around the office muttering 'bills! bills!' and if you didn't reach your target there was an inquest. You'd be told, publically 'you're in disgrace'. Bills were very high and, not having set the bill, I had to deal with the inevitable complaints. It was awful, I dreaded the billing interview, it was such a mauling. I never saw any of the aggressive billing either, my billing target was 5 times salary, just impossible in the type of firm it was.

I found a new role elsewhere.
