I can remember getting a rollicking from the senior partner at a firm where I once worked for turning away a prospective client who had turned up in reception at 1.30pm wanting a conveyancing quote. It was in the middle of a conveyancing boom, I was working through lunch and was too busy to take on a new client. I also was too busy to ask around my department to see if anyone else wanted to see the the prospective client (all of us were working flat-out). A kindly receptionist reported me to the senior partner who told me, sternly, that "This firm never turns away work." Great days. I'm so glad I'm doing something else now.
