Michael Martin, what on earth are you talking about? No one is expected to bill for more work than they have done. This is not about bumping up bills, which I have never done in my life. It’s about being organised. Let’s say everyone is given 20 fixed fee files to deal with each month. They all have the same secretarial support and everything else is equal. You would expect the figures to be fairly similar for each fee earner over a number of months. What you shouldn’t expect is that one of the group consistently bills much lower than everyone else, every month. This is the disorganised person, the one always making excuses, the one who doesn’t ever seem to get their files completed in a timely fashion. The one the rest of the team are always carrying. Perhaps you think that’s acceptable, I don’t.
