From a Grauniad article a few years ago,

'Jonathan Sumption QC was the ‘go-to’ Silk for government. ‘For my last 15 years of practice government was my most important client. I appeared regularly in the House of Lords and the Supreme Court. I met ministers and civil servants at every level and was impressed. They were honourable, public-spirited, dedicated to doing a good job.'

Happy to be paid by the state from public funds for his QC work but not happy the state assists those who are less well- off, is that the gist?

And is there any distinction being made between ' honourable, public-spirited ministers and civil servants, dedicated to doing a good job' and those solicitor oiks who do/did legal aid work?

You really wonder if people thinks things through.
