A very telling article. The reality is that the profession is very stratified, and a good analogy is that it is like the army, with the solicitors as NCOs, barristers as officers, and judges as generals.

Thus, conduct which would cause Corporal Solicitor to be court martialled, would involve the mysterious posting of Captain Barrister to a depot, and a quiet word to General Judge.

John make the excellent point that merely referring to inappropriate remarks, or behaviour lets the imagination run riot. In fairness, this sort of thing is not confined to the law. Whenever I see some weasel words from a local authority about how "A number of staff have been disciplined for inappropriate behaviour," I wonder if they have been sacked for holding drug and sex orgies in the council chamber, or given a warning for texting gaffes by councillors to each other."
