Anon 8.1.19 @ 17:41 - I have suffered depression (and several stressful life events) in my professional career, and while at times I may not have been functioning at my best I still retained the ability to distinguish between right and wrong and continued to try to maintain the professional standards expected of me. We can all make mistakes (and I'm sure I have) or be the victim of a scam, but this appears to be a deliberate and prolonged course of wrongdoing - more than 80 transactions "fully aware" of the mortgage fraud and "spectacularly failing" in the basic duties of a conveyancing solicitor is hardly inadvertent. It's not clear whether he was under duress, or being blackmailed or in the pay of his "clients" but as nothing of this kind is mentioned in the report above then presumably not.
