Perhaps this article raises deeper issues?

The confrontation in the Commons was in one sense a clash, between the integrity of the military covenant and the Rule of Law.

How many solicitors have ever faced the terror on a battlefield, of live bullets going over their heads, so should we still apply the usual rules of behaviour to the military?

On the other hand, actions which breach normal military conventions are still a crime.

There is an irony here. Parliament makes accusations of unethical conduct against a firm of solicitors. But it was the very same body , which passed legislation promoting the “industrialisation” of the law.

The real issue here is whether the industrialisation of our legal system has gone too far?
