The principal (or perhaps the only) reason for having Legal Executives is that they are generally a less expensive proposition than barristers or solicitors. The demands by CILex will erode Legal Executives competitiveness as independent advisors or as employees of law firms. Changes to their status would only make them as expensive as barristers and solicitors, therefore why maintain them as a separate entity at all ? Other jurisdictions don't. I agree with 10.33 (10 Jan) - a fused profession is the way forward. It works well in other countries. Why shouldn't it in the UK ?
