I’m not sure if anyone else saw it, but there was a really interesting research project about recruitment agencies/consultants being a key factor in driving down women’s wages. The experiment conducted (in the UK) involved sending a thousand identical CVs to recruiters where the only difference was first name and gender. The agencies, when it came to salary, were recommending female applicants for 10% to 15% less on average.

By contrast, direct applicants averaged a difference of under 10% but the range was larger.

It was done by a university in England or Wales I believe, but I can’t remember which one or find the link to the report, but it made a very interesting read.
