My legitimate concern is people believe the sole reason for the pay gap is gender and/or ethnicity. It is not.

Gender and ethnicity play a minor part is the pay gap but there are also other traits and characteristics which result in the pay gap, i.e. different career choices, ambition, assertiveness in seeking a higher salary and of course, the value you bring to the firm.

You cannot and should not argue "there is an X% pay gap between BAME and White people therefore there is inequality" , that is a very simplistic view to have on such a complex topic.
