To be clear the main network used by HMCTS, CPS and others has no resilience at the network level and little or no resilience at the message level (containing court details, evidence documents etc). Also the situation could be much worse than that unless MOJ have addressed the help line support issues over the last couple of years! Previously, the network was only monitored 9 to 5 on weekdays and not at all at weekends - no funding for support posts! If any message across the network failed to be delivered after three attempts the network shuts down for that police force and prevents message interactions with either the courts or cps - no one knows outside unmonitored hours and there is no supplier support is available to reset the system for the affected Police force anyway! For example, this causes major issues for overnight court cases as there is no support available to alert users to issues that have arisen overnight e.g. backlog of queued unsent messages either to the court or between CPS and the Police. I suspect the current problem also simply includes issues of bandwidth i.e. the old infrastructure cannot cope with the level of messaging traffic and content it is now being used for.
